This week we got several gifts from a lot of caring folks. We tried to fit in as much as we could into the shot. We want to thank all of you for mailing us gifts for Calvin even though you guys have busy schedules. Thank you to Uncle Josh and Auntie Angela, Uncle Jeff and Auntie Jane and Chelly and her family. We love the dolls, blankets, toys, outfits, bibs, cards. Very much appreciated!

Calvin is three weeks old today and he has only been out of the house three times for doctor visits. The doctor and nurses recommended that he stay home for the first 4 weeks so that is what we plan on doing. Since there has been a lot of people getting sick, we don’t plan on taking him out too often and we will try not to stay out at night. He has quite the appetite and wants to eat constantly. Many times, he will want more to eat then he can handle and spits it up. For example, when Methuse was trying to burp him this afternoon, he threw up about an ounce all over the bed. It came out fast and abundantly! The joys of parenthood…

Grandpa Al came home today from his trip to Michigan and will be leaving for much longer on Sunday. So he is trying to put in as much time as possible with Calvin. We love to see him with Calvin, making sure that he is always safe, warm and cozy. Jasmyn was excited to be able to read Calvin one of her books tonight before she fell asleep.

So we have been keeping the pacifier from Calvin because we heard that it isn’t good for their gumline. One day, at the doctor’s office, we saw a 2 year old sucking and sucking on the pacifier. After 15 mins, it ended up falling out and then…. we saw! I am sorry to put this kid out but damn, he had the meanest overbite we have seen. Straight scared the life out of us… lol but during the early morning feedings, Calvin gets really upset if he doesnt have formula going down his throat. We would keep feeding him but we know he is tapped out cause of the spit up. So we finally gave him the pacifier but he is not a huge fan. He will use it for a few mins at a time and then pops it out but sometimes, 10 mins of silence, well that is an eternity at 3am.

Another visit to the Dr. and it looks like everything is going very well. Calvin weighed 6lb 13oz when he was born. They say that babies lose weight for the first few days and than by their second week, gain back their birth weight. Calvin is just about 2.5 weeks and he is at 7lb 13oz putting him at just over 1lb since his birth. He was 18.75″ and now is 20.5″ inches. His Jondice is basically all gone and he will have another visit in 6 weeks where he will get 4 shots.

Alice and Methuse tell me that I have “Alien Toes” all the time. They are long, skinny and have oval toe nails.
They aren’t really alien looking but I guess it does have a “foreign” look to them. lol OG toes
Anyways, Calvin was fortunate enough to get my toes.
They are good for distracting picking up things when you don’t want to bend over and pick it up and although not in the photograph, Calvin has Methuse’s old wrinkly soles!
Crazy how they take things from each of us. (Falling asleep on the computer -thud-)

“So there I was sleeping as usual. I think I was about 2 hours into my sleep and all of a sudden, I am awaken to bright lights and clicking sounds. Dad, seriously! Must you always photograph me at 2am?! You have all day to shoot me, yet it is always at the crack of dawn. I’ll let you slide this one last time but if it continues, I’ll make sure to wake you up at 5am to the sounds of me sharting! You have been warned!”

A special shout out today to Nhu and Luv. May today be one of the best days of your lives. We cannot wait until you guys have your own kids (don’t start with me Nhu!!!). Calvin is waiting for playmates.
For those of you who do not know Nhu, I met her back when I was going to college in Irvine. Shortly after, a handful of us just decided to go to Santa Barbara for the hell of it. Ever since then, she has become such an important figure in our lives. I cannot believe how fast it has all gone by. 7 plus years!
Congratulations you two! May your lives be filled with love, laughter and life!

As many of you know, I have shaved my hair since 1999 because I am pretty anal about keeping my hair perfect. Since it took so much effort, I decided to cut it off more than 10 years ago. The only time I actually grew it out was during my wedding back in 2006. Shortly after, it all came off again.
Since Calvin was born, Methuselah and I have been so grateful for a healthy baby that we wanted to give back in some way. I am not sure how it came to me, but we decided out of the blue, why not donate our hair? It breaks my heart to think about all the families out there who have children battling cancer. If we can grow our hair and be apart of someone’s happiness, it is well worth it. So in Calvin’s name, Methuselah and I will be growing our hair to donate to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program. I have done diligent research and feel like it is the best program for us. If you would like to join us, post a comment in this post and we will gladly add you to the list.

For more information: Pantene Beautiful Length Program
The minimum length is 8 inches. Supposedly, typical hair grows half an inch a month. So you will need to commit for at least 16 months

Here is Calvin cheering us on and giving homage to those who are battling cancer!

Newborns are not particularly into dolls. They don’t talk to you, they can’t warm you up. All they give you are empty stares. I guess I would be creeped out if I was new to a world and was surrounded by strange looking dolls.
I know a lot of you grew up reading Calvin and Hobbes like I did. Although, this was not the inspiration for his name, I am glad that it is associated with him. The day after I named him, I have been looking feverishly for a Hobbes doll and guess what?! They don’t exist. I am so bummed by this. Apparently, the creator, Bill Watterson felt like it would take away from his cartoons. I beg to differ but what do I know? There are some people who have patterns of Hobbes that they have created and are willing to share. So it looks like Methuse will have to make a one of a kind doll just for Calvin. Until then, he will have these dolls to look at him and a Tigger outfit that is too big for him.

In the few weeks after birth, newborns will shed because they are growing so fast. Calvin is no different and he is following the milestone perfectly. Next week, this will be all done and over with. So it was important for me to get a close up of his little hand, fingers and the shedding of his skin. They say that lotion is not necessary, so we let him be and watch him peel. Yes, he does have very cute fingers and very beautiful fingernails… lol Peace!
