Calvin is three weeks old today and he has only been out of the house three times for doctor visits. The doctor and nurses recommended that he stay home for the first 4 weeks so that is what we plan on doing. Since there has been a lot of people getting sick, we don’t plan on taking him out too often and we will try not to stay out at night. He has quite the appetite and wants to eat constantly. Many times, he will want more to eat then he can handle and spits it up. For example, when Methuse was trying to burp him this afternoon, he threw up about an ounce all over the bed. It came out fast and abundantly! The joys of parenthood…

Grandpa Al came home today from his trip to Michigan and will be leaving for much longer on Sunday. So he is trying to put in as much time as possible with Calvin. We love to see him with Calvin, making sure that he is always safe, warm and cozy. Jasmyn was excited to be able to read Calvin one of her books tonight before she fell asleep.

Newborns are not particularly into dolls. They don’t talk to you, they can’t warm you up. All they give you are empty stares. I guess I would be creeped out if I was new to a world and was surrounded by strange looking dolls.
I know a lot of you grew up reading Calvin and Hobbes like I did. Although, this was not the inspiration for his name, I am glad that it is associated with him. The day after I named him, I have been looking feverishly for a Hobbes doll and guess what?! They don’t exist. I am so bummed by this. Apparently, the creator, Bill Watterson felt like it would take away from his cartoons. I beg to differ but what do I know? There are some people who have patterns of Hobbes that they have created and are willing to share. So it looks like Methuse will have to make a one of a kind doll just for Calvin. Until then, he will have these dolls to look at him and a Tigger outfit that is too big for him.

Since I photograph for a living, it only makes sense that Calvin will grow up around the camera and lights. Today was the first day that I busted out the lights and he wasn’t liking it very much. Granted, it was 2am but he wakes up at that time, so I figured why not right now? I made sure to power the lights down to their lowest settings to keep his anger down. lol
Since he is a ninja in training, he was able to block out the lights with his hands. I can’t be more proud of him, he is showing excellent technique and it won’t be long before he has the light under control.

Last night, Calvin woke up at 2am and 4am to feed and it really messed us up. We are already trying to recover from the lack of sleep we have been having the last few days. Then we had to wake up early for a doctor’s appointment which we were late to because it was our first time rushing out of the house and trying to get Calvin’s stuff together.
At Kaiser, they drew his blood to test his Jondis levels and then we spoke with the Pediatrician to get an idea of how he was developing. Healthy as can be and the best new yet was he no longer need to wear the Billi blanket, which is an indiglo light that went on his back to lower the yellow levels. He was originally suppose to wear it for a week but after one day with it, Calvin defeated the yellow-ness. Although, I say being yellow is in the heart… lol
When we got back, we fed him the usual 15ml but he was drinking it so fast, we upped it to 20ml. Then it was nap time. As they say, “When baby sleeps, you sleep”. Although it is hard for me to sleep during the day cause I have a million things to do, I was so beat, I just knocked out. Thanks to my wife, now I have this photo to make me laugh whenever I am in a bad mood! Like father, like son!
